Local Island shredder Buddy was born on the east coast, he practically grew up in the park. But his path in Snowboarding started at age 5 going out to British Columbia every winter season. He has competed as a competitive snowboarder/hockey player his whole life making the transition to being a coach simple. Since moving to the island Buddy has aided in developing some of our islands best riders. Now of days you can find Buddy enjoying some pow out back, local competitions or teaching his 2 sons new tricks!
Andrew Matthews hails from Yellowknife, NWT and spent over a decade living his dream as a freestyle snowboarding athlete. His career has taken him across the world – competing in Big Air and Slopestyle competitions in New Zealand, Belgium, Austria, Turkey, US, and across Canada. Andrew has represented Canada at multiple World Cups, TTR events and the FIS World Championships in Big Air.
Since retiring from competition, Andrew has turned his passion towards giving back to the next generation of riders. He’s helped establish Yellowknife’s first snowboard club – Ragged Riders – and, after moving to Cumberland, has been coaching the freestyle program at Mt Washington. Andrew is stoked to be a part of the Coast Club and is excited to help riders on the Island realize their dreams!
Quinn grew up riding Mt Washington and started competing on the BC slopestyle team in his teen years. Spent a few years afterwards at Whitewater resort and Whistler before coming home on Vancouver Island to get his coaching certifications so he can share his passion and experience with the next generation.
